Regional Initiatives

We are committed to developing community economic development capacity and supporting regional knowledge sharing across our region through the Trust’s bursary and sponsorship programs.

We provided a training bursary to Jennifer Knox, Economic Development Officer with K’ómoks Economic Development Corporation, to attend the Simon Fraser University’s Community Economic Development program in 2019.

Bursaries

Island Coastal Economic Trust provides up to $1,000 to cover tuition and travel expenses to attend focussed, short-term economic development training programs or economic development conferences held in the Trust service region 

Eligibility

Bursaries are open to individuals living in the Trust service region who are actively involved in community economic development or transitioning to an economic development role. Priority will be given to individuals from rural, remote and Indigenous communities.

In 2019, we provided sponsorship funding to support the ‘Connect, Money, Impact’ convening of social entrepreneurs and impact investors by Social Enterprise Catalyst held at Vancouver Island University.

Sponsorships

Island Coastal Economic Trust sponsors regional learning events that align with the Trust’s vision to build a sustainable and resilient coastal economy. Events must be regionally focused and provide training, networking, planning or other learning opportunities related to economic development or diversification. The Trust can provide up to $5,000 per event.

Eligibility

The program is open to events organized by Indigenous communities, including Indigenous development corporations, local and regional governments, and not-for-profit organizations. Events must take place in the Trust service region. 

Application Deadlines

Sponsorship proposals are accepted year-round until the annual funding has been allocated. Proposals must be submitted at least six months prior to the event.  

How to Apply

Please contact us prior to proposal submission to ensure the event is eligible. Eligible projects will be invited to submit a sponsorship package for decision by the Trust board of directors.
