Project Title:

Comox Marine Services Building

Project Organization:

Town of Comox

Project Investment:

  • Island Coastal Economic Trust: $300,000
  • Applicant Equity: $1,800,000
  • Total Budget: $2,000,000

Project Highlight:

The Town of Comox Marina is one of the largest marinas on the east coast of Vancouver Island. It offers year-round, transient dock moorage and stunning views of the Comox Bay, Beaufort Mountains and Queneesh Glacier.

The Comox Marina has been growing in popularity over the last five years and, alongside it, the increased need for retail space and commercial services.

The Marine Services Building project, led by the Town of Comox, builds on previous infrastructure work by adding an additional 2000 square feet of indoor commercial space. The new area will include indoor commercial space for three, year-round commercial or retail businesses in the marine services sector, as well as a community visitors centre, public barrier-free washrooms, visitors services, and marine manager/wharfinger offices.

New signage, low-impact lighting, bike racks, change rooms and sustainable landscaping will also complement, renew, and revitalize the area.

The short and long-term impacts of the project will enable and facilitate the expansion of marine tourism, marine industry infrastructure, the commercial seafood industry, and support for amenities needed to sustain and expand the local business as part of economic resiliency within the Town and the region.

Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2022 through the Capital and Innovation program.
