This project helped build a much-needed outdoor community gathering space, while fostering environmental awareness and appreciation. The Bridge Viewpoint parkette forms a key component of Campbellton River Village’s revitalization and post-pandemic tourism recovery efforts. The parkette is located on the new seven-kilometre River Route trail system linking seven Campbellton trails, and is the area’s second viewpoint parkette.
This wheelchair accessible parkette provides connectivity to the Campbell River through new viewscapes, and highlights the community’s reputation as ‘salmon capital of the world’. Creative elements in the park include a 50-foot mural by award-winning local artist Eiko Jones, linked to a QR code of Jones’ celebrated underwater video: Heartbeat of the River.
Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2021 through the Community Placemaking program.
