This project supported the develop of an app that showcases tourism assets in the qathet Regional District, enabling rural businesses, farmers and artisans to adapt to the constraints of Covid19 such as restricted access to the Visitor Centre. The app expands options for safely discovering and booking activities and making reservations and purchases, while at the same time supporting tourism readiness and responsiveness.
The innovative, cross-platform app was designed to become the ‘first stop’ for visitor services and community resources, facilitating high engagement as the area recovers from the pandemic. Features include travel guides, maps, QR codes and push-notifications about businesses and services – including promotions and discounts, as well as time sensitive public safety alerts. The app allows users to access and manage a wide range of information needs, and also facilitates access to virtual and phone-based visitor centre staff.
Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2021 through the Community Placemaking program.
