This project enabled the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance’s (VIEA) annual summit to pivot to an online format. For 14 years, the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance’s (VIEA) in-person annual summit has been widely recognized as one of the region’s top forums where public and private decision makers, across various sectors, learn about economic trends, share stories, problem solve and uncover business opportunities.
Covid-19 disrupted the 2020 summit, requiring the purchase of technology and establishment of new systems to deliver the full summit experience virtually for the first time. The reinvention of the VIEA conference to a digital format also supports future hybrid in-person and digital attendance.
Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2020 through the Community Placemaking program.
We work in reciprocal relationships with coastal communities across the ancestral territories of the Kwak̓wala, Nuučaan̓uɫ, Éy7á7juuthem, Ligwilda'xw, Pəntl'áč, She shashishalhem, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Hul’q’umi’num’, diitiidʔaatx̣, SENĆOŦEN, Lekwungen, and T’Sou-ke speaking peoples.
