Project Title:

Regional Film & TV Investment Attraction Tools

Project Organization:

Vancouver Island North Film Commission (INfilm)

Project Investment:

  • Island Coastal Economic Trust: $5,000
  • Total Budget: $10,000

The film and TV industry is extremely competitive, and location scouts and producers expect a regional film commission’s website to be functional, comprehensive, and searchable. To maintain its competitive position and to increase the successful attraction of productions to the region, the Vancouver Island North Film Commission (INfilm) website required upgrading and the addition of new technical functions as well as tourism-related functions such as interactive visitor maps of popular film locations.

This website includes state-of-the-art searchable location galleries, comprehensive production credits, crew directories, and the ability to continually upgrade and maintain the website – allowing INfilm to manage larger amounts of data. The revised infilm.ca website is now user and mobile-friendly with downloadable forms and a host of information to further promote the region to the international film industry. In addition to information on location services, tax credits, financing, and permitting aimed at producers and scouts, there is a section with interactive maps aimed at fans who travel to visit film production sites to pinpoint locations.

With this project, completed in 2017, INfilm now has the investment attraction tools required to promote the region’s ability to meet the workforce and technical requirements of the film industry, enabling the region to capitalize on the significant film sector opportunities available. Anticipated benefits from this project include greater exposure for regional locations, as well as businesses that provide goods and services to the sector; attraction and retention of the film, television and new media industry to the region; and support of film-related tourism opportunities in Northern Vancouver Island.
