Project Organization:

Yellowhouse Art Centre

Project Investment:

  • Island Coastal Economic Trust: $50,000
  • Applicant Equity: $358,000
  • Total Budget: $408,000

Project Highlight:

In the years immediately following the pandemic, Galiano Island’s population increased by 200 people, or roughly 14%.

The Yellowhouse Art Centre Society, founded on Gabriola Island in 2019, is the sole centre for the arts on the island.

There is a growing demand and need for people of all ages and backgrounds to access their workshops, art classes, performances, exhibitions, and artist in residency program, including year-round.

This project consists of a 900 square foot accessible and multi-purpose workshop space equipped with tools and materials, as well as a separate 250 square foot climate-controlled studio space for more refined work. The workshop will be rented hourly or daily to interested people who may not necessarily have their set up for production but could use this space to create or produce goods to sell them as a part of their businesses.

The new space will also increase the year-round use of the Yellowhouse Art Centre venue as well as attendance to all events and enjoyed in all climates.

Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2023 through the Capital and Innovation program.
