This project allowed the Sid Williams Theatre Society (SWTS) in Courtenay to purchase technology used for livestreaming on-stage performances, specifically a high-definition multi-camera package that unobtrusively captures high-quality video and audio. With it they hosted the Comox Valley Child Development Association telethon, a hybrid event and a successful fundraiser. Livestreaming allows SWTS to recoup lost seating revenue with at-home viewership. It also keeps Sid Williams regionally competitive with other theatres adopting similar technology and practices, and enables innovation as they navigate the post-pandemic live performance industry.
Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2020 through the Community Placemaking program.
