Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is one of 29 regional districts in the province of B.C. and is comprised of nine electoral areas.
This project comes on the heels of a shifting economic landscape in the region that is setting new priorities for socially and environmentally responsible community economic development that places focus on economic reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, while also promoting equity, and responding to climate change.
The new strategy will replace the last strategy, developed in 2018, and help Economic Development Cowichan develop an economic development document that will guide their work over the next five years.
To develop the action plan, the project will include a review of existing strategies, a scan of approaches used in neighbouring regional jurisdictions, and a review of funding opportunities in addition to community and group consultations.
We work in reciprocal relationships with coastal communities across the ancestral territories of the Kwak̓wala, Nuučaan̓uɫ, Éy7á7juuthem, Ligwilda'xw, Pəntl'áč, She shashishalhem, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, Hul’q’umi’num’, diitiidʔaatx̣, SENĆOŦEN, Lekwungen, and T’Sou-ke speaking peoples.
