Project Title:

Powell River Resident Attraction Campaign

Project Organization:

The City of Powell River

Project Investment:

  • Island Coastal Economic Trust: $10,000
  • Applicant Equity: $10,000
  • Total Budget: $20,000

Project Highlight:

Powell River is recognized for having one of the most active Business Retention and Expansion Programs (BR&E) in the province of British Columbia.

As part of the City of Powell River’s transition from a traditional resource based economy, they are seeking ways of developing a modernized approach, including the tools required to attract new residents to the City, particularly in light of rising migration and remote work trends post-pandemic.

In particular, the City hopes to build a new investment attraction research process and strategy that builds on the success of a previous 2014 Resident Attraction Marketing Campaign. This latter saw a rise in both real estate sales and construction starts.

The resident attraction campaign project will capitalize on growing remote working trends by redefining target markets, messaging and tools to reach its audience most effectively. A new marketing strategy with implementation roadmap, a new website with updated content and technology and a rebuild of social media tools are all expected. This strategy aligns and builds upon substantial progress and work the City has been doing to create new baselines for higher value remote worker and entrepreneur attraction.

Island Coastal Economic Trust approved funding for this project in 2020 through the Investment Readiness program.
